Past [Nome's P.O.V.]:
Melanome was born in a large litter of six, the first-born but runt of the litter. His father Rojor, as custom, attempted to kill the runt until his [moreso favorite] daughter-kit took a liking to him. Nome's life was, after that, not very difficult [being the son of the rogue-pack's leader, anyway.] He caused a bit of trouble for the clans, as he was a very curious kitten and often wandered into clancat territory, causing skirmishes and bad tempers.
His mother was killed in a brawl not too long after his birth, and her litter was moved to a 'nanny' cat that Melanome loved with all his heart. He attempted to follow his father around much more often, though Rojor would hardly put his paws on him, even to shove him away. Things went on for a long time like that, Melanome feverishly trying to win his father's affection while Rojor seemed to be wasting it on everyone else.
One night, however, a new cat arrived, looking for a home. Rojor gave it to her, telling the pretty she-cat that she could be his personal hunter if she so wanted. She was clever, and one night slipped a death berry into a vole she'd caught for Rojor.
Nome caught sight of this and, quickly, kicked the food away from Rojor's hungry jaw and told him everything he knew, condemning the she-cat to death. Rojor would never say that he was proud of his 'runt of a child,' but Melanome knew that he'd finally got the small bit of attention he'd wanted.
When Melanome turned ten moons, Rojor began to talk about who would take over the pack when he passed on. Nome knew he really had no chance: but that didn't matter to him. The lust for power drew the small cat to create a small group of his own, mixed with enemy rogues, loners, and a few of his friends. These cats were to do his bidding, and during their time killed a good chunk of Melanome's family, until there were only two other siblings left to compete with: Kuga, a rather dim-witted tom with more muscle than brains, and Thara, his twin. Thara was smart as Melanome and just as driven, though instead of wanting some sort of Monarchy, he wanted a group much like the clans.
Nome realized Thara would be a challenge. The pack liked the tom, Rojor liked the tom, and he was most-likely to move up as leader. He planned for his group to capture and kill Thara, though they never got the chance.
Fortunantly for Thara, Nome's plans were destroyed by the humans, and Nome lost sight of his elder brother as all the cats, including the clans, fled.
Past [Thara&Kuga's P.O.V.]:
Thara and Kuga were born in a very large litter: Kuga was the largest, Thara average-sized. Kuga grew to be a simple-minded tom, following his brother Thara wherever he went. The two toms were very similar twins, often playing tricks on the elders, pretending one was the other, vice-versa.
Their mother always told them sugar-coated stories of their father, Rojor, but the two kits didn't want anything to do with him, looking up to a strong cat in one of the neighboring clans. They met daily with said cat, sneaking into his clan's territory for secret 'training' sessions with him.
When Rojor found out, he was furious. Their mother, thinking quickly, acted as if the kind warrior had tricked the kits. Rojor believed her, taking out his anger on the older warrior who, as a result, died.
For a few weeks, Kuga and Thara mourned the cat's death, very nearly loathing their parents. As Rojor said, they later "got over it," realizing that stayed mad at their 'king' would lead to nothing but trouble, getting and staying on his good side just a few days later.
One night, a she-cat came into their territory, a sly, pretty cat who automatically became Rojor's personaly huntress. Thara and the she-cat became friends immediatly: apparantly she was there to dispose of Rojor. She had been the kind warrior's mate, and reconized his two 'apprentices' by the description the warrior had given her. She told Thara of her plan, how she would slip a death berry into a meal for Rojor.
Melanome, Thara and Kuga's half-brother, caught wind of this and quickly told Rojor what she had done, moments before he'd taken a bite. Rojor sentenced death, Thara mourned once more, and life returned as it was.
Thara and Kuga, however, learned to keep an eye on Melanome, who was much too overjoyed with the attention Rojor had recently given him.
When Kuga and Thara turned 13 moons, Rojor began talking of who would take his place as leader. Knowing they weren't even close to being his favorites, the two toms gave it very little thought.
Suddenly there was an influx of deaths in the family. A loose band of rogues were targeting Rojor's children, killing one to two, sometimes even three each night! This went on until Melanome, Thara, and Kuga were left alive. Already suspicious, the two twins were extra-cautious of their younger brother. They kept to groups of cats over three and stayed around Rojor and their mother.
There was talk of Thara being next-in-line, and securitity was heightened a notch, and life went on as normal.
Just before the humans came, Melanome disapeared, though Thara spotted him in a crowd, fleeing from the place.
Past [Blaze P.O.V.]:
Little did the three siblings know, the she-cat Melanome had sentenced to death and the warrior Thara and Kuga had looked up to had one daughter: a young she-cat named Blaze. She knew her parents had both been killed, but she didn't know by who. Blaze had almost followed her mother out of the clan she called home, Riverclan, but decided not to at her mother's request.
"I'll return, Blaze," her mother had told her, and as Blaze aged she decided her mother was never going to return.
She lived in her clan for only a few moons, her movements slow for her age, ears always drooped. Deciding to find the cats that her mother could not defeat [as she figured she had nothing to lose, now,] and left the clan to be a loner.
Soon, she met Melanome. He reconised who she was as she spoke to him, but pretended he'd never heard of the rogue group her mother had gone off to find, 'and would she like to stay with him in his cave for the night, it's awfully cold.'
She did, and the two became fast friends.
Present [Nome's P.O.V.]:
Nome is currently living outside the clans with Blaze, the she-cat. He is making himself a home and keeping an eye out for Thara and Kuga.
He still has a group of loners and rogues, very few actually from his father's old 'pack.'
Present [Thara&Kuga's P.O.V.]:
Thara and Kuga have decided that it would be safer to go under false names and take shelter in one of the two clans: Thara in Thunderclan, Kuga in Windclan.
They still have a group of loners and rogues from their old 'pack' days, as well as new friends in their clan.
Just a few days after he was finally accepted, he began to make good friends as well as open up somewhat about his history, telling his friends how he'd lived as a loner with his two brothers. His history went this way:
"The three of us were a group of friends. I couldn't imagine my younger brother, rather half-brother, would snap. But he did, and he's still out there, hunting myself and ____[Kuga's new name] down. That's why I consider myself, well, kind of in-debted to Soulstar for letting me in. This protects me. I only hope the same for ____."
He went on, of course, to tell them candied stories of how he'd survived many things, threading story after story about outside-clan life, something he knew most had never experienced. They were lies, of course, far-fetched some of them; few of them made him seem heroic.
That night, a she-cat approached Thara as he slept just outside the warrior's den, her jaw close to his ear. In a hushed, low voice, she whispered: "I know who you are," she hissed, "that you are not one to be trusted. That you are not a fellow comrade, that you never were. You are Rojor's son. You are a speck of dirt under Starclan's claw. You do not deserve such applause."
When he turned, there wasn't even a scent left behind. For the rest of the night, he slipped in and out of nightmares.
